Samuel CRUST (1862-1938), son of George CRUST and Elizabeth CRUST, was born on 22 November 1862 at Maryvale St, South Brisbane, Qld. He was a carpenter. Samuel and Emily were married on 2 May 1885 in the Wesleyan Parsonage, River Terrace, South Brisbane. Samuel's sister, Priscilla was a witness.
Queensland School Admission Records indicate that in 1872, Samuel, aged 9, was enrolled at the Yeronga State School, Qld and in 1876, aged 13, he was enrolled at the Coorparoo State School. Samuel attended the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations at the Cooparoo State School on Saturday, 17 October 1936 as one of the 27 original scholars. A newspaper article about the celebrations was published in the Courier-Mail, Monday 19 October 1936, p11 "DAYS OF PAST RECALLED : Diamond Jubilee of Coorparoo School".
Meanwhile Emily, who was growing up in England, appeared in the 1871 and 1881 English Census records. In 1871, Emily, aged 4, was living in Brook Street, Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England with her grandparents Francis and Esther HAND, while her parents and younger brother were living in a Grocer's Shop at 24 Moor St, Kingswinford, Brierley Hill.
In the 1881 Census, Emily, aged 13, was now living with her mother, Sarah HAMMOND, step-father, Samuel HAMMOND and brother and sisters in the Cat Inn, Wordsley Green, Kingswinford (Stafford), Stourbridge. Her step-father was a Licensed Victualler. Emily was a scholar.
Emily emigrated with her family from London, England on 16 January 1883. They arrived in Brisbane, Qld on 7 Mar 1883. They travelled via Port Said, Aden, Batavia & Thursday Is. on the Queensland Royal Mail Steamer "Chyebassa".
Samuel seems to have attracted the attention of the police and on 29 June 1895, was mentioned in the Queensland Police Gazette Vol. XXXII, No. 28 p.199:

Daisy was born on 4 December 1886 in Queensland. She married William Henry James Parker, son of Henry Parker and Elizabeth Wakerley on 12 Feb 1908 in Brisbane, Qld.
They had six children, Granville Samuel Henry Parker, 1909-1985, Coronation Daisy Parker, 1911-1993, Albert Herbert Parker 1913-1989, Ruth Parker b.1920, John Richard Parker 1930-1964 and Stanley Parker.
Daisy died aged 82, on 28 January 1968 and was buried in Hemmant Lawn Cemetery, Brisbane, Qld, Lawn P1 G1063.

4. Harold CRUST (1888-1962).
Harold was born on 13 December 1888. He was a carpenter. Harold served in World War 1 as a Gunner in the 33rd Battery, 9th Field Artillery, 3rd Australian Division. His Regimental No. was 20773. He enlisted on 9 September 1915 and embarked from Sydney, Australia, aboard the HMAT Argyllshire A8 on 11 May 1916. He served in France and Flanders. He was discharged on 6 October 1919. His Military Record is available through the National Archives Australia.
On 31 December 1919, less than two months after Harold returned from the war, he married Jessie Georgina Hutchins in Brisbane. In 1920 their daughter, Thelma Crust was born but she died soon after. They had two more children Malcolm Francis CRUST born about 1925 and Melody CRUST born about 1926. His wife, Jessie died on 3 Jan 1938.
Harold died aged 73 on 18 Aug 1962 and was buried at Mr. Thompson, Brisbane.

Jack was born on 16 September 1895 in Brisbane. He married Miriam Lilley CROSS on 6 March 1925 in Brisbane. They had four children: Cecil Robert Crust (1925-2002), Reginald Bernard Crust, Gloria Lilley Crust (1928) and Shirley. John Cecil died aged 85, on 19 August 1980.

Vera was born on 7 March 1900 in Brisbane. She married Ernest Montague Boulton on 10 Jan 1921. They had four children, Kevin Godfrey Boulton, Allan Montague Boulton, Valerie Boulton and Peggy Boulton. Vera died aged 70, on 8 April 1970.

Trix was born on 4 May 1905 in Morningside, Qld. He had a twin who died at birth. He married Violet May HARDKE on 8 June 1926 in Brisbane. He was a Steam Engine Driver. Trix and Violet had ten children: Clifford Granville Richard Crust (1928-69), Laurence Crust (1930), Daphne 'Joan' Crust (1932), Douglas Crust (1934), Shirley Crust (1936), Lacey Albert Crust (1938), Bertram William Crust (1940), Gladys May Crust (1942), Helen Ruth Crust (1943), Carol Anne Crust (1951).
Granville 'Trix' served in World War II in the 12th Army Troops Company, Royal Australian Engineers as a Lance Corporal. He enlisted on 10 December, 1941 and was discharged medically unfit on 12 April 1943. His Military Record is available through the National Archives Australia. Trix died aged 62, on 10 October 1967 and has a memorial plaque at the Mt. Thompson Memorial Gardens, Holland Park, Qld.

Grace was born on 30 June 1910 in Brisbane and died on 1 July 1910. She was buried on 4 July 1910 in the Toowong Cemetery, Brisbane.
Samuel CRUST and Ann LONGLAND (Samuel's second marriage)
Samuel aged 49, married Ann LONGLAND aged 47, on 17 September 1912 in the General Registry Office, Brisbane, Qld. Ann was born on 22 June 1865. At the time of their marriage Samuel was a resident in Blackall Terrace, East Brisbane, Qld and was working as a Carpenter. Ann was a widow, her married name being Wakerley. She was a resident in Balaclava St, Woolloongabba and was a Housekeeper.
In March 1922, Samuel had his kitbag stolen from the public bar of the National Hotel, Queen St, Brisbane. The incident was reported in the Queensland Police Gazette p.161. "C.I. Branch, Brisbane - Stolen from the public bar of the National Hotel, Queen Street, Brisbane on the 4th instant, the property of SAMUEL CRUST, Lucinda St, Deshon Estate, one brown leather kitbag, about 20 inches long, nearly new, clasp at one end broken, containing one pair of dark working tweed trousers (spots of paint thereon), one ½-inch chisel, and one white striped shirt; value £2 10s. Identifiable -1087. 15th March, 1922".
Samuel died aged 75, of a coronary occlusion and arteriosclerosis on 19 September 1938 in the Brisbane Hospital. The informant was his stepson, I.F. Wakerley. Samuel was buried on 20 September 1938 in South Brisbane Cemetery, South Brisbane. He is buried with Ann's first husband William Wakeley and one of her children. His Funeral Notices appeared in the Courier-Mail on Tuesday, 20 September 1938, p12.
A year after Samuel died his wife Ann placed an In Memoriam notice in the Courier-Mail.
Ann died aged 92, on 8 September 1956 in Eventide Nursing Home, Sandgate, Brisbane, Qld. She was buried in the Tingalpa Anglican Cemetery.

Emily Annie BOWMAN and Joseph Bruce McFARLANE
(Emily's second marriage)
Emily, aged 43, married Joseph Bruce McFARLANE on 27 September 1912 in "Aloomba" Annerley Road, South Brisbane by the rites of the Presbyterian Church. Joseph was a bachelor and a carpenter. At the time of their marriage they were living in Wynnum and Emily was working as a domestic.
Emily died aged 68, of an aneurysm of the aorta and acute pulmonary oedema on 12 February 1936 in Chestnut St. Wynnum Sth, Qld. The informant was her daughter, Ethel D.E. Parker, of Morehead Ave, Norman Park, Qld. Emily was buried on 14 February 1936 in Bulimba Cemetery, Brisbane.
Her FUNERAL NOTICES were published in the Courier-Mail, Brisbane on Friday, 14 February 1936, page 1.
A year later, on 12 February 1937, five IN MEMORIAM's were published on page 1 in the Courier-Mail, Brisbane.
